Have you bought an electric stove - the dream of every zealous housewife? This really useful acquisition will help to cook a lot of delicious dishes without the use of open fire. True, its illiterate connection threatens to burn out the wiring, electric shock and short circuits. Agree, there is a risk.
In order to exclude the listed extremely negative situations, you need a power outlet for an electric stove. Installation of the device guarantees trouble-free and safe operation, if the installation rules are followed.
We will tell you in detail how to correctly select and install the specified type of electrical fittings. Step-by-step visual instructions and video guides are attached to our information.
Types of power points for electric stoves
Installation of a new stove, especially electric, is necessarily accompanied by a connection procedure. Sometimes an electrician is invited for this type of work, but more often they cope on their own.
In order for the new equipment to last for a long time, and in the process of operation there are no problems, one should carefully consider the technical standards for its installation.
Particular attention should be paid to the selection and installation of the appropriate power connector. The opinion that for an electric stove it is enough to install the most ordinary outlet, is wrong.
It will not be able to withstand high loads and, at best, will simply melt. For powerful electrical appliances, special sockets are used that can withstand 7 kW or more.
Choosing the right outlet for your stove, you need to focus on the maximum value of the rated current
Power sockets on the market differ in color, material of manufacture, shape, installation method and withstand load. When buying this device, you must immediately buy the corresponding plug. Often manufacturers of electric stoves complete their equipment with a power plug and socket - all that remains is to install them correctly.
According to the material of manufacture, power sockets are made of carbolite and high-quality plastic. The first option is black, they are usually cheaper. Plastic are presented mainly in white. They cost more, are of high quality and an increased level of durability.
By the method of installation, power sockets are distinguished:
- for open installation;
- hidden installation.
If it is to be installed behind a plate that is firmly against the wall, it is better to choose models of a hidden installation, the working mechanism of which is hidden in the wall.
High-power three-phase socket, used for installation in apartments / houses, which includes a three-phase electrical network
Among high-power outlets, you can find both options with a grounding contact, and without grounding. For an electric stove, you should buy a ground outlet.
Food in the house can be single-phase, three-phase and rarely two-phase. Based on this feature, you need to choose a socket that has the necessary contacts and lay the appropriate power cable.
In order to correctly select the power connector suitable for the electrical network entering the house, you need to find out in advance from the electricians serving the site, the type of network and the presence of grounding. Their answers should be unambiguous and clear. Only after this, you can independently proceed with the purchase and further installation of the power outlet.
The power connector of a hidden installation is most often chosen in order to save space, especially when its installation is planned behind a stove
Features of the electrical device
A power connector (socket) that can withstand heavy loads is used for powerful household appliances. Its ability to pass through itself large values of the rated current, compared with ordinary household models, is the most important technical characteristic of the product.
To connect the power connector with a single-phase mains, a three-core cable is used, consisting of a phase, zero wire and grounding of the corresponding section
If simple sockets are designed for 10 A, 16 A, then power sockets are designed for 25 A, 32 A and more. Their contacts do not heat up when such current passes.
An electric point of increased power, like a conventional outlet, consists of a working mechanism, an external decorative lining that performs a protective function, and screws. Only the device of the working mechanism of the power outlet differs.
If you disassemble it, then inside you can see the input terminals for connecting the power cable and output contacts that transmit electric current to the plug inserted.
Rules for installing an electrical outlet
The question of connecting a stove arises at the end of the repair. At this time, finishing work was already completed in the room and a power cable was laid. It remains only to connect the outlet and the stove itself.
This is ideal. But it happens when such a question arises at the very beginning of repair work. Here you need to act consistently, following the basic rules.
# 1: Preparing to install a power outlet
The first step is to determine the installation location of the electric stove. It is good to immediately choose a model in order to know its dimensions and, most importantly, power consumption. It is from this characteristic that it depends on which wire to be laid as a power supply.
The power outlet for the stove or electric hob can be installed at a height of 10 cm from the floor. The main thing is that she should be far away from the sink and dishwasher (+)
Having decided on the model of the device and the place of its installation, it is necessary to lay a separate line of the power cable from the shield to the kitchen. To do this, select a wire with a cross section of 6 mm2. Necessarily copper. It is better to take high-quality wiring that meets GOST, because safety and long-term operation depend on its quality.
It is important for the stove to lay a separate cable so that no accident occurs in the future
When choosing a wire and laying it, you should be guided by the norms prescribed in the code of rules SP 31-110-2003, clause 9.2. According to them, additional sockets, switches or lamps cannot be connected to the supply line for the electric stove.
For a single-phase network, a three-wire cable with a cross section of 6 mm is used2, and for a three-phase - five-core, but with a smaller cross section.
When installing power connectors in concrete and brick walls, use a hidden installation option
Having picked up the correct wire, you need to protect it. To do this, a 32 A circuit breaker is installed in the shield for it. Also, for additional electrical safety, it is necessary to install a 40 A residual current device immediately after the circuit breaker.
RCD and circuit breaker will help protect the home from the sad consequences that may occur in the event of a network overvoltage (+)
The next step is to purchase a power outlet of the correct power. Its rated current must certainly correspond to the technical characteristics of the machine. If the house has a three-phase network, then it is more advisable to buy a three-phase outlet for the electric stove to be installed.
When choosing a power outlet, you should consider what type of installation to be - open or hidden. Also, you should definitely buy a plug suitable for the particular selected outlet. Indeed, many foreign outlets do not fit domestic plugs. And vice versa.
If you have to install a power connector inside the kitchen cabinet, then it is more advisable to take an invoice model
# 2: Choosing a place for a power point
When choosing the location of the point for connecting powerful kitchen appliances, do not forget about the safety rules. This outlet must not be located above the work surface or in a place that is difficult to access.
Often, to connect a powerful hob, a power connector is installed behind the rear wall of the oven, located under it. Next, mount a conventional outlet to connect it
It is strictly contraindicated to mount a power outlet for your electric stove in such places:
- under the sink;
- behind a washing machine;
- a dishwasher.
If the plate is installed on the legs, then the optimal location of its outlet is 15 cm from the floor. It is also important to ensure that the electrical point is away from sources of water and fire. According to technical standards, the stove should immediately be plugged into the outlet. For electrical safety, it is forbidden to turn it on through extension cords.
It is strictly forbidden to install a power outlet above or near the stove. It’s better to hide it in a nearby locker.
One of the convenient options for its location is behind the stove itself, if the stove can be freely pulled out of a niche and the place allows it. Another option is in the cabinet next to the stove. Such an arrangement will allow you not to worry that the plastic will overheat, and access to it is not difficult.

# 3: Specificity and connection sequence
Having decided on the place where you will have to install the outlet for your brand new stove, and laying the power cable there, you can proceed to install it. You can do this work yourself or invite an electrician.
Having chosen a plate, you need to carefully study the accompanying documentation and equipment. Often, the manufacturer provides a power pair from a socket and plug along with an electric stove
If you have to independently install a power outlet, you need to take the appropriate tools, the outlet itself. Then turn off the power of the wire with which to work. Be sure to check that there is really no current on this line.
In the selected place for installing the outlet, make a note and, taking a puncher, make a hole for the glass of the socket. This is true when installing a hidden power outlet.
Then, a feed wire laid for these purposes is inserted into the socket. The protective braid is removed from it, and the released multi-colored wires are carefully stripped by 0.8-1 cm. Now they have to be connected to the socket mechanism.
It is important here that the yellow-green wire responsible for the earth is correctly connected to the grounding pin of the outlet - the central one. It remains to carefully connect the phase and zero to the extreme contacts and make sure that all connections do not fall off. Do not tighten too much - you can damage the wires.
When connecting the power connector, as usual, it is important not to mix the wires by connecting them to the corresponding terminals
When the quality of the connection of the wires is checked, you need to firmly fix the socket to the wall using alabaster or gypsum mortar. After drying, it remains to fix the mechanism itself with screws and screw on the upper insulating case of the power outlet.
After installation, you must check whether the outlet works. If everything works, then you can start connecting the stove itself.
If you need to transfer the outlet, we recommend that you read the article.
Power Plug Options
Buying an electric stove, buyers receive a bonus from most manufacturers - a plug with a suitable outlet. These elements need only be connected to the plate and the power cable, respectively.
There are various connection schemes. They depend on the mains supply entering a private or apartment building. Distinguish this connection:
- single phase;
- two-phase;
- three phase.
Often manufacturers on the back of the plate apply all three wiring diagrams. The home foreman will only have to remove the protective cover and, guided by the attached circuit, connect all the wires of the plate to the plug.
Sometimes such a scheme is attached to the instructions that come with the electric stove. It is necessary to carefully study it and act in accordance with the desired scheme.
With a three-phase wiring diagram, you can figure it out on your own. To do this, you have to carefully study the circuit itself and not mix up the wires
Before you start laying the supply line separately for the stove, you already had to figure out which network feeds the house. Based on this, a 5 or 3-core wire of optimal diameter was selected. Knowing this nuance, from the proposed connection schemes you have to choose your own and act.
Three-phase network often comes into new buildings. When connecting a stove in the kitchen of such an apartment, one should be guided by the three-phase connection scheme.
Its essence is to connect the contacts of the plate to the five-wire wire of the plug:
- the phases A, B, C are connected to the terminals L1, L2, L3. In this case, the phase jumpers from the copper wire are not used;
- between the zero terminals N1, N2 a copper jumper is placed and a zero wire is connected to it;
- a yellow-green ground wire is connected to the PE terminal.
Sometimes there is a variant of a two-phase network in the house / cottage, built somewhere at the very beginning of the last century. In order to correctly connect powerful kitchen appliances / stove in such a situation, depending on the phases available, a good copper jumper must be placed between the two terminals of household appliances.
For example, between L1 and L2. Then connect phase A to this terminal, and attach the remaining phase C to terminal L3.
Between the zero terminals N1, N2, the same high-quality jumper is placed and the neutral wire is connected. And the ground ground is attached to the PE terminal.
The two-phase electrical network that feeds the house involves the use of a two-phase circuit for connecting powerful electrical appliances
In houses of the old construction, a single-phase electric network most often comes in. Here in this case, a single-phase connection scheme is used. Here zero and ground are connected in the same way as the two previous schemes, and copper jumpers are placed between the three terminals of the plate. And then the phase wire is connected.
Copper lintels often come with a stove. But, if they suddenly were not found, you can use a copper wire of 6 mm2by disconnecting pieces of the right size from it. The connection points to the terminals must be gently crimped to ensure reliable contact with the clamps.
A single-phase network is most common. With this connection, it is important to correctly place the copper jumpers between the phase terminals.

For check we use indicator screw-drivers. Check the correspondence of the wires by color: white - phase, blue-white - zero, yellow-green - earth
To check the wire intended for grounding (with yellow-green insulation), we use a tester
We install the socket housing on the wall and start the wires.For power cables, it is better to use overhead sockets - it is more convenient to work with them
We insert the wires into the output panel and check: on the right side - phase, on the left - zero, in the center - ground
You can connect the wires inside the plug in advance. They must match the wires in the outlet.
When the plate plug is plugged into the socket, the wire contacts must match: phase - with phase, zero - with zero, ground - with ground
Once again we check whether the cable is connected to the plate correctly, we tighten the contacts. To check, use the connection diagram
After checking the conformity of the wires in the socket and plug, you can put the cover on the socket body and screw it on

Step 3 - checking the functioning of the stove
Step 4 - Installing the Plate to a Power Outlet
On this, the installation of the power outlet and the connection of the electric stove are considered complete. If during operation the outlet is out of order, you can try to fix it, the main thing is to observe safety precautions during work.
Connecting a cooker without an outlet
Sometimes it is not possible to install a power outlet for the stove. But this fact is not an obstacle to its connection. Indeed, without an electric stove it is difficult to imagine a full-fledged kitchen.
In this case, you can connect the stove directly to the power cable. Sometimes it is placed in a junction box, and all wires are connected to the corresponding terminals of the terminal block.
Also, it is possible when such a box is not standing, and the power cable just comes out of the wall. The meaning of the connection from this will not change - it will be the same.
Do-it-yourself connection of the wire of the electric stove directly to the supply wire
First, you need to unwind the plug of the electric stove and release the wires that are in it. This is usually 3 wires - ground, phase and zero.
Secondly, you need to disconnect the power line with which you have to work from the network. Be sure to ensure that electricity is not supplied to protect against electric shock.
Thirdly, unscrew the screw from the protective cover of the junction box. Here you can see the terminal block to which the cores of the power cable are connected. In the case when the distribution block is not installed, it will be more convenient to put it. So the connection will be more accurate.
Fourth, the wires of the power plug of the plate are to be connected to the corresponding terminals with the wires from the junction box. It is important not to mix the colors here - connect the yellow-green ground wire of the plug to a similar supply wire in the box. Connect the phase and zero wires in the same way.
If there is no power plug in the kit with the plate, then the wire can be connected independently
When the connection is completed, you need to put back the protective cover of the junction box, tighten the screw. All - you can check the performance of the electric stove.
It is important not to forget that using this type of connection, the consumer loses the warranty. In the event of a breakdown before the warranty period expires, you will have to repair the equipment at your own expense. This is one of the unpleasant moments of such a connection.
But there are also positive aspects. So, if in the near future it is planned to replace the old plate, then, working with the junction box, it will not be difficult to connect everything new.
When all work on connecting the power outlet and the stove is completed, you must turn it on to make sure that everything works

You can connect a power outlet without involving electricians. To do this, you have to choose the right device, given the power of the equipment that will be turned on. The main thing is to lay a separate cable specifically for the stove and secure it by installing a disconnect switch and an RCD. The installation process itself does not differ from the installation of a conventional outlet.
